Pretty much ever since my little brother Pat moved up my way, I’ve been percolating several ideas about the PERFECT mix CD for him. Pat naturally gravitated towards the excellent music of the indie rock persuasion, thank goodness.
Music is a seriously vital part of my life — I need it like water. My tastes are pretty eclectic, and lately I’ve been listening to everything from London punk to French jazz (so sexy!!), so when I find a person that will at least LISTEN to the stuff I like, well, that merits an extra special CD, doesn’t it?
Pat gave me the idea to embroider a case, and I definitely had a ton of fun designing this. It is all freehand: just cut the size (its folded double for the front and back), and then stitched the background and laid the “flame” felt on top.
The back:"this is our decision/to live fast and die young/we’ve got the vision/now lets have some fun" - one of my favorite lyrics from “time to pretend” by mgmt.
rome - phoenix
to the east - electrelane
missed the boat - modest mouse (Pat and I are serious MM junkies)
cause = time - broken social scene
hey - red hot chili peppers
a-punk - vampire weekend
invisible - modest mouse
electric feel - mgmt
love you madly - cake
time to pretend - mgmt
someday - the strokes
rebellion (lies) - arcade fire
15-step - radiohead (on the twilight soundtrack, he didn’t know that bahaha!!)
young folks - peter bjorn and john (reminds me of 94.7 back home…)
kids - mgmt (duh)
gravity rides everything - modest mouse
3rd planet - modest mouse
good times - latch key kid
Definitely not the most imaginative playlist ever, but I don’t think he is ready for truly strange gypsy punk like Gogol Bordello or stuff from the New Moon soundtrack I will have to sneak on his next one (Monsters by Hurricane Bells = super!!)
Sophie tried to ruin my photoshoot, so here I am giving the poochie a smoochie. Yes that is a sweater. Yes she likes wearing it.
Its Saturday night, which means I don’t have anything else to do but procrastinate and find inspirational crafty things on Etsy.com! I luuuurve this site oh-so-much. Its great if you are looking for that special one-of-a-kind thing for that person that is hard to shop for. Or easy to shop for. I tend to want everything. Hint. Hint.
This is like $60 bucks on Etsy. Um yeah…thats just knitted cord. But I guess she strung beads along the yarn to give it kind of a metallic shimmery-thing…which…still…doesn’t make it worth that. I will make you myself bahaha!
I love the color combo and the little handmade leather bow. Precious.
Shoot me and leave me for dead I WANT THIS!!!!!!!!!!
I got a sorta-kinda-they-aren’t-paying-me-but-my-love-of-knitting-will-keep-me-warm-at-night JOB AT A KNITTING SHOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dreams DO come true!
Haha. Well like I hyphenated above, its definitely not a paying job. Yet. :-3 But I went to my LYS (local yarn store) that I always go to, called Sew E-Z Too on Garland. Its a fabric store too, with some needlecraft and quilting. And knitting of course. And I brought my wares and spread them out like I was in a Moroccan market and BEGGED them to let me help them out in the store. They definitely appeal to an older crowd, which is totally cool, but they would like to get some younger chillin’s in there as well.
Everyone there is, wow, so nice. And so excited! So for now, I am just going to be Sara’s (aka the yarn manager) assistant at the knitting classes we host each week. And then, in a few weeks I’m hoping, I can start teaching classes of my own. Start a knitting club. Do some charity events. SO many ideas. I am just bursting with them.
But I will be posting class information of course on here, but I’m also hoping to get some flyers put up around campus, and word of mouth around. If anyone is interested in taking a knitting class or you would like to improve on your skills, or have ideas for a cool class, LET ME KNOW! I would love to hear some feedback from all y’alls =)
Okay, peoples, I know usually I put up pictures of all my crafty finished objects, but this time, this pic is from my friend Emily. I love that she liked it so much she posted it on her facebook!
— my trusty quilt pen (to sketch on the molecular structure for caffeine!!)
— some felt scraps (I think I got them from Michael’s ages ago)
— a cardboard coffee cozy to make a template
I whipped this together a few nights before school started, and I got the idea off a seller from Etsy. It was super easy!
For those unlucky people who don’t know Emily, she is most definitely the smartest girl I have ever met (umm hello? She takes classes like vertebrate zoology and genetics and o-chem in the same quarter while I complain about accounting). We’ve been friends since freshman year of college, and she is a pre-med major, aka a seriously MAJOR NERD. =) I knew that the inner geek inside her would just love this. I was just really happy she posted it, so I thought I would share it with all of you!
Yes, yes…while all of the other 20-somethings in this small town go out with their sex, drugs, and rock and roll (or whatever you do on a Friday night), I sit at home and browse weird Japanese fabric sites. :-3 Even though I am only 20, I feel like an old lady most of the time — as many of my friends can attest to — just because I would rather do things like drool over fabrics and vintage knitting magazines than go out. I did think it was weird when I was younger, but now that I have decided to open my own yarn shop/perhaps handknit boutique someday I’m okay with that.
The moral of the story is that I am very smitten with these fabrics.
Soooooo who wants some lovingly handmade pajama bottoms? Thats all I know how to make basically and I must own some of this weird stuff. Its from taking 4 years of Japanese in high school. I am like a moth to a light when it comes to all things kawaii.
For some reason this reminds me of math plus group (the squirrels!!), which is an inside joke I think only my friend Emily will get…I heart my math tutor basically.
omg piggies. this makes me giggle. so flipping cute!!!!
A Friday without working is so weird for me! So I have decided to snuggle up with the feline (still recovering from her first interaction with catnip, poor thing) and catch up with The Office episode I missed, maybe work on some top-secret projects for the upcoming holidays.
Her face is one of perpetual boredom. My face is one of perpetual amusement.
Anywhoo, hope y’all have more exciting plans than me. But I am definitely going to take advantage of the fact I don’t have anything to do by doing NOTHING tonight! <3
